Greetings, Colleagues.
I'm refreshing an EMBA course in strategy formulation, and seeking recommendations from list members on three things.
1. Looking for "best book" suggestions on current titles in or around strategy. Not textbooks per se, but recent popular titles of substance that would appeal to an executive audience.
I'm considering the following options, and would appreciate any comments about these options, but I'm also seeking suggestions for books not on this list.
· D'Aveni, Beating the Commodity Trap
· Blaxill & Eckardt, The Invisible Edge
· Colvin, The Upside of the Downturn
· Teece, Dynamic Capabilities and Strategic Management
· Heath2, Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard
2. Trying to find an efficient, practical piece on dynamic capabilities – something HBR-ish would be good; needs to go deep enough to be of substance but not so deep as to lose them.
3. Leadoff case – for years I've used Robin Hood, and it's good but getting a bit tired. Would like a short, fun case for the first day that engages them and pulls out major strategy themes. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your recommendations. I would be glad to summarize responses and post them to the list if there is interest.
N.B. I think BPS-NET is about 20 years old now, and still a great resource. We all owe a debt to Jim Stephenson, who kicked off this great idea, one of the first AOM online discussions.
