Overview
Behavioral approaches to strategy have become widely used over the last decade, while at the same time calls for studying the microfoundations of firm behavior have gained prominence. Both approaches share the objective to 'open the blackbox'. With respect to strategy, both these strands of work have generated key insights into how strategy 'works': who is involved, what processes in terms of strategic issue identification, strategic decisionmaking, strategy implementation and so on happen and how does evaluation of all this occur?
Building on this work, cross-level and multi-level theories of strategy and strategic phenomena are being proposed. Behavioral strategy provides a conceptual apparatus to translate theories and findings from cognitive, social and related fields of psychology to questions on strategy. Microfoundations thinking provides the scaffold and a systematic approach to theory building to address these questions and enrich macro theories with the micro.
In this one-day symposium, presenters will discuss their current work in this area, panelist discuss the current state of affairs, and roundtable sessions allow for in depth discussion and future research development. Interaction is a key advantage of a small scale workshop and thus we encourage all working in this area to join us.
