    Apologies for cross-postings:

We invite you to participate in our PDW session:

"Reinvigorating the Strategy Perspective in Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM)"

    Saturday, August 2, 2014

    9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Philadelphia Marriott Downtown in Room 307

Interest in SHRM research continues to grow, both in the field and in academia. Scholars from both OB/HRM and strategy bring the predilections of their foundational organizational sciences (namely psychology and economics, respectively) into SHRM, and much of the intellectual vibrancy of SHRM research arguably stems from the interplay between these two foundations. Yet, SHRM research has recently been dominated by the OB/HRM "universalistic" perspective, which strategy scholars tend to view as "unstrategic". We believe that this is an inadvertent consequence of the fact that most SHRM scholars' disciplinary foundation is psychology, and that it can therefore be partially remedied through a discussion about what strategy scholars mean by the "strategy perspective".

The purpose of this PDW is to launch a discussion about how SHRM research can be enhanced by more strongly incorporating "it depends" perspectives from strategy. Accordingly, we will engage in small-group dialogue in order to better specify what strategy-infused SHRM research would "look like".

The full listing of participants is presented below.  We look forward to your participation.
