  • 1.  SCALES FOR MEASURING EVIDENCE BASED MANAGEMENT

    Posted 03-28-2011 10:02
Two of my students at Ghent Univeristy are writing a masterthesis on Evidence-
Based Management. They want to research how evidence-based the decisions of an
    executive are in an organisation.
In order to do that, they need a scale for measuring Evidence-Based
Management. After scanning the literature, they concluded that there is not
    yet such a scale.

I now like to ask your help. Does anyone have an idea of the existance of a
scale that measures how evidence-based a decision is or scales that measures
how decisions are made? Evidence-Based Management is based on the use of four
sources of information:practitioner expertise and judgement, the best
available research evidence, evidence from the local context and the
perspectives of those people who might be affected by the decision.

If you know a scale for measuring one of these information sources, please let
    me know. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Amie,
Have your students looked at Jeffrey Pfeffer and Robert Sutton's book, Hard Facts, Dangerous Half-Truths, & Total Nonsense? Although it doesn't have any measurement scales per se it might provide some insights or ideas. Also, the medical literature on evidenced based practice has expanded in recent years and may provide some avenues to pursue in developing a scale or scales.
