    Acquisitions, Alliances and Capabilities: New Research Directions
    AOM PDW # 374
    Aug 2nd, 1.30 - 4 pm
    Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, Freedom H
    (BPS, IM, TIM)

    Panelists: Gautam Ahuja (U. of Michigan), Xavier Martin (Tilburg U.), Myles Shaver (U. of Minnesota), Giovanni Valentini (Bocconi U.), Haibin Yang (City U. of Hong Kong)

    Organizers: Abhirup Chakrabarti (Queen's U.), Aseem Kaul (U. of Minnesota), Brian Wu (U. of Michigan).

    This PDW seeks to explore new research questions related to acquisitions and alliances from a capabilities-based perspective. Specifically, we are interested in examining three broad topics

    a) the role of acquisitions and alliances in driving innovation and enabling the development of organizational capabilities;
    b) the capabilities and conditions that determine acquisition and alliance success; and
    c) the spill-overs (both negative and positive) between acquisitions and alliances

    and exploring new theoretical questions and empirical methods associated with these topics, especially in a multinational context.

    Towards this end, the PDW brings together a panel of distinguished scholars from across the world to discuss these questions both with each other and with other workshop attendees. The PDW will thus consist of a brief panel discussion followed by an interactive round table session involving the panelists and workshop participants.

    This PDW is open to all. Pre-registration for the workshop is encouraged (though not required)--only those who have pre-registered will be guaranteed participation in the round table session. To pre-register, please go to: https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg. In case of questions, please email the organizers at abhirup.chakrabarti@queensu.ca or akaul@umn.edu.

    We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia in August!
