STRATEGY and STRATEGIC HR POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTS
(apologies for multiple postings)
Management and Human Resources Department
School of Business
University of Wisconsin-Madison
The Management and Human Resources (MHR) Department in the School of
Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is recruiting for one
tenure-track strategy/management processes position for Fall 2006, one
strategy/management lecturer for Fall 2006, and one strategic HR lecturer
for Fall 2006. For the tenure-track position, level is open. The
lecturer positions are non-tenured and non tenure-track. Salary and
benefits for the positions are competitive and based on applicant
qualifications and experience.
Tenure-track strategy/management process applicants: Applicants
should have a Ph.D. (by August, 2006) and show strong evidence of
research competence and promise, with a high likelihood of continuing
publication in top-tier journals. In addition, demonstrated teaching
effectiveness is required, and candidates will be expected to contribute
to the teaching of undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. strategic management
courses. Preference will be given to candidates able to teach in
strategy, as well as organization theory and entrepreneurship. Both
research and teaching are evaluated and heavily weighted in our
performance appraisal and tenure review processes.
Lecturer applicants: Applicants must have a Ph.D. and a
demonstrated track record of teaching excellence in graduate, executive,
and under-graduate contexts. For the strategy/management process
lecturer position, preference will be given to candidates able to teach
in strategy, organization theory, and entrepreneurship. For the
strategic HR lecturer position, preference will be given to candidates
able to teach in human resources, but may include organizational behavior
and general management courses as well. Lecturers typically teach 3
courses each in the Fall and Spring semesters and are evaluated primarily
on their contribution to the teaching needs and mission of the
department. The lecturer positions are nine-month positions with an
initial appointment of three years, renewable thereafter. Summer
teaching may be available but is not guaranteed.
Current tenure track members of the MHR Department include Ray Aldag,
Mason Carpenter, Randy Dunham, Jonathon Eckhardt, Gerry George, Barry
Gerhart, Chip Hunter, Sanjay Jain, Anne Miner, Alex Stajkovic, Ann
Terlaak, and Charlie Trevor. The MHR faculty maintains strong links
at the graduate level with faculty and students in Sociology,
Engineering, Economics, Industrial Relations, Law, Medicine, and
Psychology.
The School of Business is housed in Grainger Hall, a $40+ million
state-of-the-art facility. The Fluno Center, a $28-million Executive
Education Facility, opened in Spring 2000 and permits the offering of a
broad range of executive-level programs.
The University of Wisconsin is a world-class institution, and many
departments with which School of Business faculty interact, including
Sociology and Economics, are ranked among the top in their areas. The
UW-Madison was third among public universities in academic reputation in
the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings.
Madison is a beautiful city situated on an isthmus between Lakes Mendota
and Monona and is consistently ranked by the popular business press one
of the "Best Place to Live in America". It has also been named
one of the seven Dream Cities in the U.S. for outdoor enthusiasts, the
nation's best city in which to raise children, and one of the top ten
places to live for "Generation X'er's". Health care, schools,
and recreational opportunities are all outstanding. Madison has the most
restaurants per capita of any city in the nation, and one of the nation's
lowest unemployment rates. It offers more than 200 parks, many excellent
golf courses, a wonderful (free) city zoo, a 1,300-acre arboretum, and
hundreds of miles of bike and hiking trails. The Madison Civic
Center attracts theater, opera, and ballet productions from around the
world. A number of independent theaters, including the open-air American
Players Theatre in nearby Spring Green, offer a variety of stage
productions. The July 1997 opening of the Frank Lloyd
Wright-designed Monona Terrace Convention Center on Lake Monona and the
January 1998 opening of the Kohl Center a $74-million UW basketball and
hockey facility are adding to the city's sense of excitement and civic
pride. A $100 million gift to the city has just been given to develop a
downtown arts district.
