    WORKSHOP GOALS

    * To bring together "early career" and "seasoned" scholars doing
empirical work and/or integrative work (e.g., meta-analyses) in the
domains of the RBV, Dynamic Capabilities, and/or Competitive
    Heterogeneity.

    * To provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop research
networks among geographically dispersed researchers who might otherwise
not have an opportunity to interact.

    * To provide authors of working papers, developing projects, and
other works-in-progress with positive feedback, a friendly exchange of
ideas, and constructive critique to assist with transitioning working
    papers into publishable articles.

    * To promote the development of a mutual-support network for
junior scholars performing research in the RBV, dynamic capabilities,
    and/or competitive heterogeneity.

    WORKSHOP APPROACH

A common topic in contemporary strategic management research involves
the subject of competitive heterogeneity. Specifically, what are the
sources of persistent performance differences among firms? The
resource-based view (RBV) has emerged as a dominant perspective for
explaining persistent heterogeneous performance differences, yet it has
been difficult to establish and support both conceptually and
empirically. Alternative explanations have advocated dynamic
capabilities as a source of interfirm performance differences.
Collectively, the strategy field still lacks a cohesive body of
empirical studies providing clear and consistent evidence of the sources
    of inter-firm performance differences.

    WORKSHOP REQUIREMENTS

Scholars interested in participating should submit draft working papers,
prior to the workshop, as outlined below:

    Submission Requirements

    * Please submit a working manuscript by May 31st, 2006, to
    craig.armstrong@utsa.edu.

    * Submissions under early stages of review, or scheduled for
    conference presentation are acceptable.

    * Submissions should generally follow AOM guidelines and include a
detailed abstract, and three to five key words that describe the area of
    contribution of the paper.

    * The cover page should include a rank order preference of the
three panelists with whom the author(s) prefer to review and discuss
    their work

    * Submission indicates intention to participate in the PDW and
permission to distribute the paper to the panelist/discussants as well
    as fellow workshop participants.

Authors will be notified by June 15, 2006 regarding their inclusion in
the PDW and the discussant assignments. Individual papers will be
distributed by July 1. Each paper included in the workshop will be
grouped with others that are similar in topic or methodology and
assigned to an appropriate panelist who will serve as lead discussant.
Participants in each group should prepare written comments and feedback
on the other papers in their group. Individual groups will exchange
feedback during the workshop, with each group's discussion facilitated
    by the assigned panelist.

Please direct any inquiries about this PDW to its organizers: Craig
    Armstrong (craig.armstrong@utsa.edu), Paul Drnevich (dren@purdue.edu),
    and/or Katja Nothnagel (Katja.Nothnagel@gmx.de).
