The aim of the proposed PDW is to broaden our understanding of qualitative research and encourage scholarship that uses interesting, underutilized methods that expose new ways of seeing phenomena to generate theory. Even though the range of qualitative methods is broad, most qualitative researchers tend to apply only a limited part of that range. The three most often applied qualitative methods, by both young and experienced scholars, are Eisenhardt's building theory from case studies, Gioia's approach on grounded theory, and Langley's process studies. With this PDW we would like to shed light on less commonly used, but very impactful, qualitative research methods, such as: action research, discourse analysis, story telling, Fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis, meta-triangulation, and mixed methods.
We have invited experienced researchers with these new or underutilized qualitative methods to share their experiences and dialogue with the audience to motivate innovative research agendas. The first part of the PDW is filled with expert presentations and the second part is a roundtable discussion with the six experts.
No registration for the PDW is needed.
