The Department of Management at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applicants for one or more full time (academic) tenure-track positions beginning August 2016. We are interested in applicants who possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management or Corporate Social Responsibility. Candidates should also have an interest in teaching at least one of the following areas: History of Management, Global Responsibility of Business, Production and Operation Management, or Entrepreneurship. The right candidate will be interested in collaborating within the Department of Management and College of Business at UW-La Crosse, an AACSB-accredited institution, to support the following CBA program offerings: undergraduate Management Major, graduate MBA program, and several interdisciplinary minors including Sustainable Business, International Business, and Healthcare Management (in development). Candidates with sufficient management experience to help students understand the difference between theory and practice will be especially welcomed, as will independent and interdisciplinary thinkers capable of challenging the status quo and of then helping to build it anew. Finally, we expect people in this position to have a true love of both management and learning and to be people who aspire to make significant contributions to both.
All faculty at UW-La Crosse have three workload components: teaching (40%), scholarly activity (40%), and service (20%). The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in undergraduate teaching. A typical semester includes a nine-hour-teaching load, with two preparations, if the CBA productivity guidelines are being met. The two-section preparation will typically include one of the following core CBA or Management Department courses: History of Management, organizational behavior, introduction to business, international management, global responsibility of business, operations management, or strategic management. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in teaching a upper-level courses in management and will have opportunities to teach in the MBA program and/or in one of several interdisciplinary minors. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements these teaching interests.
Successful candidates will have a commitment to scholarly activities that result in peer-reviewed publications. Peer-reviewed publications are necessary for promotion and tenure and for maintaining academic qualifications that meet AACSB standards. The specific area of research is open and members in the department have a history of collaborating with new faculty. Undergraduate research is highly valued on campus.
A willingness to engage in university and professional service is also necessary. The University of Wisconsin System is based on a tradition of faculty governance. New faculty are encouraged to seek advice from the department in achieving the right balance in performing service activities that are professionally rewarding, yet do not detract from their teaching and scholarly activity. Service to the profession and community are also highly regarded.
The Department of Management supports initiatives in sustainable management and is a signatory of the Global Compact (www.unglobalcompact.org) and the Principles of Responsible Management Education (www.unprme.org). These interest areas have long-term implications for curriculum and faculty development. The Department also recognizes and values diversity in its faculty, staff, and students. We seek a colleague with strong interpersonal skills who will be a dedicated teacher and mentor for students from a variety of backgrounds.
A Ph.D. or DBA in a management-related field is required; qualified applicants who are ABD with evidence of expected completion of the dissertation by the start date in August 2016 will be considered. Candidates are expected to have high professional ethical standards and to be able to perform as excellent teachers, researchers, and service providers. Experience in teaching and scholarship is desirable.
