    QCA PDW 2014 AoM Philadelphia CALL FOR PROPOSALS

    9th Annual Qualitative Comparative Analysis Professional Development Workshop

    Friday, August 1, 2014  11:15 AM– 2:15 PM at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, Independence A

     

    Organizers: Ruth Aguilera (Northeastern), Donal Crilly (LBS), Peer Fiss (USC), Thomas Greckhamer (LSU), Rodney Lacey (Emory), and Vilmos Misangyi (Penn State)

    We are pleased to again offer this workshop on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and fuzzy-set (fsQCA) set-theoretic methodologies. The workshop is aimed at benefiting a variety of scholars ranging from those who have no previous exposure to this methodological approach to those who are somewhat familiar with it to those who have extensive experience and want to share new frontiers. 

     

    Part I (11:15 – 1:00): Introduction to Set Theoretic Methods (no registration required)

    Part I is aimed at participants without prior or little experience and will provide a general overview of set theoretic methodologies and their conceptual logic, introductions to crisp-set (csQCA) and fuzzy-set (fsQCA) approaches to this method. It will also include a Q&A session that will allow attendees to ask questions of an expert panel.  Part I is open to all attendees and does not require pre-registration. However, those wishing to obtain a list of recommended pre-readings should email Peer Fiss (fiss@marshall.usc.edu).

     

    Part II (1:00 – 2:15): Roundtable Discussions of Submitted Proposals

    Part II serves the needs of participants who are using set theoretic methods in their current research and would like to discuss their research and receive feedback. We will organize proposals by topic/level into several small-group roundtable forums. This will allow QCA panelists and author participants to interact and provide consultation regarding their ongoing research projects.  This Part II roundtable workshop is open to all faculty and Ph.D students.  Yet, to attend Part II, you must submit a proposal for review by June 23, 2014.  Acceptance notices will be sent by July 9, 2014.

    SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Your proposal should not exceed 3 single-spaced pages (excluding references). You may also add 1 additional page of figures, tables, graphs, etc. Specificially, please include the following: (1) Research topic and conceptual framework; (2) Key research questions; (3) Short description of data and methods (if applicable); (4) Key findings (if applicable); (5) Challenges (the area on which you would like to focus discussion; (6) Three keywords that describe your proposal; and (7) Faculty + rank or Ph.D. student + year in program

    ""Exploring Complex Causality: Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) for New and Advanced Users"

    We are pleased to offer our 11th edition of the workshop on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and fuzzy-set (fsQCA) set-theoretic methodologies.
