We are pleased to offer our 11th edition of the workshop on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and fuzzy-set (fsQCA) set-theoretic methodologies. The workshop is aimed at benefiting a variety of scholars ranging from those who have no previous exposure to this methodological to those who have extensive experience and want to share new frontiers.
Part I: Introduction to Set Theoretic Methods (no registration required)
Part I is aimed at participants without prior or with little experience with QCA-but everyone is welcome. We will provide a general overview of set theoretic methodologies and their conceptual logic, including introductions to the overall logic, crisp-set (csQCA) and fuzzy-set (fsQCA) approaches. It will close with a Q&A session that will allow attendees to ask questions of an expert panel. No prior registration; we do recommend a list of pre-readings, which can be obtained by emailing Peer Fiss prior to the session (fiss@marshall.usc.edu).
Part II: Roundtable Discussions of Submitted Proposals (proposal required)
Part II provides the opportuinty for participants who are already using set theoretic methods in their current research to discuss their research and receive feedback on it. We will organize proposals by topic into several small-group roundtable forums. This will allow QCA panelists and author participants to interact and for authors to get consultation regarding their ongoing research projects. This Part II roundtable workshop is open to all faculty and Ph.D students. Yet, to attend Part II, you must submit a proposal for review by July 4, July 20, 2016. Acceptance notices will be sent by July 22, 2016. Along with the organizers, Ruth Aguilera, Joanna Tochman Campbell, and Roberto Garcia-Castro will be participating in the roundtables.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: Your proposal should not exceed 3 single-spaced pages (excluding references). You may also add 1 additional page of figures, tables, graphs, etc. Specificially, please include the following: (1) Research topic and conceptual framework; (2) Key research questions; (3) Short description of data and methods (if applicable); (4) Key findings (if applicable); (5) Challenges (the area on which you would like to focus discussion); (6) Three keywords that describe your proposal; and (7) Faculty + rank or Ph.D. student + year in program
