USI invites applications for positions in the Management stream of the Ph.D. program in Economics.
The successful candidate will work as a teaching and research assistant at the Institute of Management and Organization and will be supervised by one of the faculty members depending on the area of research. The four positions are in the following areas:
Strategic Management:
Students interested in the realm of corporate strategy are particularly welcome to apply. The ideal candidate will be interested in studying M&As, alliances, divestitures or other mechanisms a firm can use to expand or contract its boundaries. A keen interest in quantitative empirical research is strongly preferred.

Entrepreneurship & Family Business:
Students interested in the family business (the most common organization form) are particularly welcome to apply. The ideal candidate will be interested in studying corporate entrepreneurship in family firms and explore the complex dynamics of family – ownership – firm relationships. Multi-methods approaches are particularly suitable (clinic studies, quantitative studies as well as experiments).

Economic Sociology & Organization Theory:
Students with interest in the study of the social mechanisms underlying the behavior of organizations are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be interested in collecting and analyzing large data to gain a greater understanding of topics covered in major journals in the field of organization theory (e.g., Organization Science, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal). A keen interest in quantitative empirical research is required. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Julia) will be highly considered.

With its emphasis on rigorous training and high-quality research, the Faculty of Economics at USI provides a solid first step toward the development of a successful international academic career. To satisfy the minimum criteria for consideration, applicants must have completed a Master degree in management, economics, sociology, psychology, or closely related fields before joining the program. The Ph.D. program is in English. Admission to the Ph.D. program is highly competitive. Admission decisions are based on the candidates' background, interests, attitude and potential for academic achievement. Successful enrollment in the Ph.D. is hardly compatible with further professional activity.
Applications should contain a Curriculum Vitae, a short letter stating a research interest and motivation, transcript of university education, and the names of two academic references that can be contacted for more information for the short-listed candidates. Students should indicate their preference among the research areas indicated above in the application. The candidate is also welcome to include any other significant certifications (e.g., TOEFL, GMAT, GRE...) or material (e.g., Master Thesis) that he deems relevant.
