This symposium attempts to gather cutting-edge research to advance our understanding of when organizations learn from their prior success and failure experiences and when they forget those lessons. Notwithstanding significant work conducted in this distinct field of learning literature, much is still unknown about the mechanisms of learning from success and failure and the contingencies that enable and inhibit such learning both at organizational and individual level. Studies included in this symposium employ different theoretical lenses and methodologies to examine how analogical reasoning, failure recovery duration, individuals' emotional regulations, star inventors, and external framing of failures influence learning and forgetting from own and others' successes and failures.
