Assistant/Associate Professor in Healthcare Management

The Helzberg School of Management at Rockhurst University, an AACSB-accredited school in
Kansas City, Missouri, invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor
position in the area of healthcare management (appointment beginning June 1, 2010). The faculty
member will have primary responsibility for 1) delivering the highest quality graduate learning
experiences in healthcare management, 2) conducting healthcare management research and
publishing, and 3) supporting the continued growth, expansion and ongoing improvement of the
school?s Healthcare Leadership programs.
This tenure-track position requires demonstrated passion and results in teaching. We seek an
outstanding educator who will effectively combine theory and practice in teaching healthcare
courses on such topics as the U.S. healthcare system, healthcare management, human resources
management, organizational behavior, management information systems, and/or healthcare
financial management. While the Helzberg School offers undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA
programs, this position will have primary responsibility in the innovative MBA in Healthcare
Leadership programs. We offer a joint MBA-Medical Degree in collaboration with a local medical
school, as well as with medical residency programs. In addition, we offer healthcare management
programs in cooperation with graduate nursing programs. The selected candidate will also teach
within our other business degree programs as needed, and must be able to guide and mentor
students in their academic and career pursuits.
Qualifications: The position requires a doctoral degree in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare
Management, or Management with concentration/specialty in healthcare administration, health
policy or management; a research focus related to healthcare management or policy; refereed
publications and ongoing or planned research that is designed for future publication; and
experience in healthcare management (e.g., business and/or clinical leadership, patient care
delivery systems, management information systems) and/or healthcare management consulting.
Candidates who are ABD will be considered, provided that they meet all other requirements for the
position. The selected candidate will be required to meet eligibility requirements to work in the
U.S. on the date the appointment is scheduled to begin. Selected candidate must be able to
communicate effectively in English.
Responsibilities: Successful applicants will be expected to teach 18 hours per academic year
(typically a 3 + 3 schedule) and maintain a productive research program, as well as contribute to
the service needs of the department and University.
