Competitive Strategy Interest Group Teaching Workshop
Strategic Management Society Conference (Prague)
Saturday, October 6th, 2012
13:00 - 16:00
Pre-registration deadline: September 17, 2012
The Competitive Strategy Interest Group is offering its second annual
Teaching Workshop at the 2012 Strategic Management Society meetings in
Prague, Czech Republic.
In this three-hour workshop we will address competitive strategy content
and pedagogical methods.
• The content segment of the workshop for this year will focus on
game theory. Game theory and competitive rivalry represent a key theme in
the competitive strategy domain, both in terms of research and teaching.
During the first part of the workshop three scholars will serve as
panelists demonstrating their approach to teaching game theory and/or
competitive rivalry. These panelists are Brian Boyd (City University of
Hong Kong), Christian Asmussen (Copenhagen Business School), and Steven
Postrel (University of California-Irvine). Each of the panelists will
offer a different viewpoint on teaching game theory/competitive rivalry.
• Engaging students will be the focus of the pedagogical portion of
the workshop this year. Business schools have been placing a greater focus
on increasing experiential learning and student engagement. Many of us
face challenges in finding interesting and innovative exercises that
effectively teach competitive strategy concepts. In this second portion of
the workshop, Joan Allatta (Purdue University) will share her best
practices and their favorite exercises, including demonstrations when
possible.
To facilitate planning, please pre-register by sending an email to
csig.teaching@gmail.com by Sep. 17th including:
1) a list of courses you currently teach, and
2) questions you have about teaching game theory and/or using experiential
exercises.
