CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
BPS Doctoral Consortium
August 3-4, 2012
The Business Policy and Strategy Division will sponsor a doctoral consortium during the pre-conference period of the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Boston, Massachusetts. The objectives of the consortium are to support mid- to late-stage doctoral students in business policy and strategy as they shape their dissertations, to give them a chance to meet and interact with some of their future colleagues and to enhance their scholarship, teaching and overall development. To qualify for the consortium, a candidate must be in the proposal stage of his or her dissertation with plans to defend the dissertation proposal by September 30, 2012. The consortium will be held on Friday, August 3 from 7:30 am to 6 pm and on Saturday, August 4, from 7:45 am to 1pm.
The 2012 consortium co-chairs are Samina Karim (Boston University) and Xavier Castañer (University of Lausanne). The faculty panel includes: Rajshree Agarwal (U. of Maryland–College Park), Felipe Csaszar (U. of Michigan), Kathy Eisenhardt (Stanford U.), Gerry McNamara (Michigan State U.), Willie Ocasio (Northwestern U.), Violina Rindova (U. of Texas-Austin), Gabriel Szulanski (INSEAD-Singapore), Libby Webber (U. of California-Irvine), and Ed Zajac (Northwestern U.)
Interested doctoral candidates should apply in writing by May 31, 2012 by submitting:
1) a cover letter stating: a) that you are applying to the BPS Doctoral Consortium, b) your primary division of interest is Business Policy and Strategy, and c) you commit to accept an invitation to only one doctoral consortium at the 2012 AOM meetings. Please also indicate in this letter the number of years you will have participated in your PhD program by September 2012, your dissertation proposal defense date (on or before Sept. 30, 2012); and why the BPS Doctoral Consortium is the best fit for you.
2) a nomination letter from your dissertation chair; the letter should verify that the candidate is working on his/her dissertation proposal and confirm the candidate's dissertation proposal defense date.
3) a current CV (2 page maximum).
4) a 200 word abstract of your dissertation proposal (this will be distributed to others).
5) a summary of your dissertation proposal with 3-5 keywords identified at the end of the abstract (2 page maximum).
Please email your application to Xavier Castañer at (xavier.castaner@unil.ch) with the phrase "2012 BPS Doctoral Consortium Application" in the subject line. Please have items 3, 4 and 5 above as a single Word document, with the items presented in the order listed and using the candidate's last name as the file name (e.g., Karim-cv-abstract.doc). Please do not send these documents in PDF format. Providing us with these items in a Word document allows us to easily create a handout summarizing each participant's information for distribution to consortium participants. Item 2 may be submitted by the candidate along with the other documents, or separately by the dissertation chair, in either Word or PDF format. Any questions concerning the Consortium may be addressed to Samina Karim (samina@bu.edu) or Xavier Castañer (xavier.castaner@unil.ch). Participants will be notified of their selection by June 30, 2012.
