The Department of Management at the University of Memphis is seeking intellectually curious and motived candidates to join our PhD Program in Management beginning Fall 2019.
Our Program
The doctoral program in management is a full-time, four-year, AACSB-accredited research-oriented program. Intensive research seminars are offered in human resource management, organizational behavior, organization theory, strategic management, research methods, and statistics. The program generally consists of two years of coursework, followed by exams and dissertation. We maintain a small doctoral program to maximize student-faculty interaction and encourage student-faculty research collaborations that result in meaningful products for students. The goal of our program is to train students to publish cutting-edge, theory-driven research in premier scholarly journals so that they can obtain research-oriented academic positions at well-regarded universities and colleges. Examples of student placements include Akron, Alabama, Alaska, Brock, Fresno State, Illinois State, Kansas State, Marshall, Mississippi State, New Mexico, North Texas, Ohio, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Rutgers-Camden, South Dakota State, UNC-Charlotte, and UT-Arlington.
If admitted, our doctoral students receive a $20,000 stipend and a full tuition waiver for up to four years. We also provide generous resources for regular attendance at academic conferences. Our students regularly present at national conferences and many of our students have publications by the time they are on the job market. Our Department
The Department of Management has close ties to the local business community, which is home to large corporations such as FedEx, AutoZone, and International Paper. Our department also has close ties to the FedEx Institute for Technology located next door to our business college.
The management faculty have micro- and macro- research expertise in areas including human resource management, organizational behavior, strategic management, entrepreneurship, and international management. We publish our research in premier scholarly journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Organization, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Personnel Psychology, Academy of Management Perspectives, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Research Methods, and others.
The College
The Fogelman College of Business and Economics has become a leading business school in the Southeast. Globalization is a strategic emphasis of the College. Degree programs offered include the BBA, MA (Economics), MBA, Executive MBA, International MBA, MS, and PhD. The academic programs of the College are fully accredited by AACSB International. The College faculty approximately 100 serves over 3,000 students, with approximately 2,450 undergraduates, 525 master's students, and 60 doctoral students. The highly qualified faculty is recognized for scholarship and publications in leading academic and professional journals.
The Fogelman College of Business and Economics is home of the newly established PSI Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion (CWDI). The CWDI is an interdisciplinary center created to foster research, workshops and seminars, student learning, and employee training in all areas of workplace diversity and inclusion. CWDI serves as a resource for faculty, students, business, and community partners who wish to understand the array of issues related to diversity and inclusion that exist in the workplace. Because workplace diversity and inclusion comprise a wide range of topics, the center encourages interdisciplinary approaches to research, education, and training while supporting innovative approaches to exploring the vast array of critical issues in organizations. The Community
