How do strategists make strategy visual in firms? Despite the ubiquity of visuality in the social accomplishment of strategy, visuals have largely been rendered to the background in theoretical accounts of strategy process (Meyer et al). Mintzberg (1994, p240) once declared that "no one has ever seen or touched a strategy. Strategies ... do not exist as tangible entities. They are abstract concepts, in the minds of people." Since that time, a growing body of scholars within the strategy practice tradition in particular have challenged this view, showing how materials, as "physical things and artifacts", can be used by strategy actors to change "minds" and achieve strategic ends within organizations (Werle and Seidl, 2015). (Le & Spee; Stigliani & Ravasi, Werle & Seidl).

Drawing on the experiences of a variety of scholars engaged in the field of strategy, this Professional Development Workshop aims at contributing to emerging scholarship at the intersection of strategy, practice, and visuality. It consists of two parts: Part 1. Presentations: on three perspectives of visuality and strategy from leading scholars in the field, followed by a brief Q&A. Part 2. Workshops: designed around key themes intersecting both strategy as practice and visuality scholarship.
