This year, we will be discussing "Theorizing from Qualitative Data Using Analytical Artifacts". Analytical artifacts are those intermediate processes during qualitative data analysis. They include: case narratives/composites; chronologies/temporally bracketing data; visual maps and other drawing; use of sensitizing concepts; identification of critical events or conversations; a-day-in-the-life composite; vignettes; hyperlinking between data sources (e.g., text to photos; or interview to archival data); written accounts from different organizational or team member perspectives; and other non-coding approaches.
Panelists include Martha Feldman, Senior Editor, Organization Science; Joep Cornelissen, co-Editor-in-Chief, Organization Theory, the Netherlands; Rebecca Bednarek, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand; Paula Jarzabkowski, Co-Editor, Strategic Organization, Australia; Tine Köhler, co-Editor-in-Chief at Organizational Research Methods, Australia; Jane Lê, Associate Editor at Organizational Research Methods, Germany; Paula O'Kane, University of Otago, New Zealand; Anne Smith, University of Tennessee Knoxville; Catherine Welch, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland; Mirjam Werner, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The session will begin with short presentations by the above experienced qualitative scholars who will discuss their analysis process and use of analytic artifacts during the analysis process, zooming in on the practical nature of the process; this will be followed by time for questions from the audience. The second half of the session will be spent in round tables working through ways to explore the data through analytical artifacts to generate early theoretical ideas.
Again, you need to register for this session! The session is usually over-subscribed with an overflow waitlist. If you have any questions about the session, contact any of the PDW organizers: me (asmith51@utk.edu),Tine Köhler (tkoehler@unimelb.edu.au), or Jane Lê (Jane.Le@whu.edu).
