    Join us at AOM Symposium ; Measuring Corporate Environmental Sustainability Performance:
     Current Approaches and the Path Forward

    [Program number: 2239, Date: August 8th, Time: 4:00 - 5:30 pm, Location: Suffolk Marriott]

    Many of us have studied corporate environmental sustainability in various empirical contexts, using different measures as a tool to explore interesting research questions. In this symposium, we propose to take a step back from our usual conversations and refocus our attention on measurement. Measures often tends to be overlooked; our decisions on measurement have historically relied on established customs in the field. Recent research has discussed the potential bias in previous research partly due to the varying approaches to sustainability measurement.

    So, it is right time to shed more light on the issue of sustainability measurement.

    The agenda of symposium follows;

    Part 1: the status quo of environmental sustainability measurement in academic research

    Topics to be discussed: constructs and measures that panelists have used in their research, pros and cons of those measures

    Part 2: Mandatory versus voluntary corporate disclosures of environmental performance and initiatives

    Topics to be discussed: recent changes/trends in sustainability information disclosure, academic and societal implications of mandated disclosure

    Part 3: The path forward

    Topics to be discussed: advancement in other disciplines/ other social performance, advice for junior scholars in the filed

    Our panelists will bring their expertise and insights from diverse fields;

    Florian Berg (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
    Nilanjana Dutt (Bocconi University)
    Andrew King (Boston University)
    Ethan Rouen (Harvard University)
    Jasjit Singh (INSEAD)

    Hope to see you there!
