Interested in studying technology without relying on patents? Are you already working with BuiltWith data and willing to do a short of pitch of how you are using it? Please join us Saturday afternoon in Chicago!
The session will build on the successful 2023 PDW and focus on a novel technology profiling database - the BuiltWith database - which forms the basis of exciting new research, including works recently published in Management Science and the Strategic Management Journal (Burford, Shipilov and Furr, 2022; Koning, Hasan and Chatterji, 2022; Roche, Oettl, and Catalini, 2024). Specifically, the BuiltWith database tracks technology adoption and usage for internet-based companies and thus sheds light on the critical technology, strategy, and organizational choices of both large and small firms. The PDW will bring together scholars who have successfully utilized the database and are familiar with its advantages and shortcomings. An overview of the data and its potential use cases can be found in the article "Built with BuiltWith." [SSRN LINK]
Do you have an early-stage project or working paper that uses BuiltWith data? If so, please consider sharing it at the PDW! Please email Bryan Stroube (bstroube@london.edu) or Michael Impink (impink@hec.fr) one or two slides if you are already working with the data and would be willing to do a short of pitch of how you're using it.
