We welcome you to join us for the AOM Panel Symposium 2193, titled "Putting the Scientist Front and Center."
Tuesday, August 8, 2:00–3:30 pm ET
Boston Hynes Convention Center, Room 209
Overview:
Supporting the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management's objective of "putting the worker front and center," this presenter symposium seeks to rebalance attention in the innovation literature by "putting the scientist front and center." Specifically, this symposium brings together papers that link data on individual scientists to large corporate firms and smaller startups to facilitate answering such important questions as:
- How does the supply of scientific human capital affect corporate innovation activity?
- How does the scientific origin of startups affect their exit strategy?
- How do the characteristics of science-based entrepreneurs moderate the effect of business mentoring on early-stage startup performance outcomes?
- How does the bargaining power of scientific human capital condition corporate appropriation strategy?
Presentations will include descriptions of the innovative methods used to construct the novel datasets and discussions of the key findings and implications.
Panelists:
- Larisa Cioaca (Duke University)
- Lia Sheer (Tel Aviv University)
- Amir Sariri (Purdue University)
- Nur Ahmed (MIT Sloan)
We look forward to interesting conversations about the importance of scientists to innovation and entrepreneurship!
Best,
Larisa, Lia, Amir, and Nur
