The Entrepreneurship PhD Program at the University of Louisville (USA) is now accepting applications for our next cohort, which will begin in Fall 2026.
We are also looking specifically for a PhD student focused on franchising research and education for a fellowship opportunity with the Yum! Center for Global Franchising Excellence.
Our program is the longest-running PhD program in entrepreneurship in the United States, and is designed to prepare students for faculty positions at leading business schools.
Program highlights:
- A full-time, residential cohort model that fosters a collaborative and developmental environment
- Strong emphasis on theoretical foundations, cutting-edge empirical research, and pedagogical training
- Designed to be completed within four years
- $32,000 annual stipend, full tuition waiver, and health insurance subsidy

- Opportunities to collaborate with several centers housed within the College of Business, including Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship, Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence, Center for Free Enterprise, Center for Positive Leadership, and Family Business Center.
Our faculty are active researchers publishing in FT50 journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy, and Journal of Business Ethics. Several also serve as associate editors and on the editorial boards at leading journals in the field.
Recent graduates have accepted tenure-track positions at institutions such as Florida State University, Loyola University Chicago, and the University of New South Wales.
