The Strategy and General Management Department at ESADE Business School invites expressions of interest from internationally leading scholars in strategic management, entrepreneurship, innovation, organization theory, and related areas for a senior faculty appointment in Barcelona, supported by Spain's ATRAE 2026 program.
ATRAE is one of Spain's flagship talent-attraction schemes. It is designed to bring established, internationally recognized scholars currently based abroad into the Spanish research system through a combination of substantial research funding and a permanent academic position at the host institution. For scholars considering a move to Europe, ATRAE offers an unusual model: it combines the scale of a major research grant with the long-term security of institutional hiring.
For the 2026 call, the program offers up to €1.0M per award over 3–4 years to support the scholar's salary and research agenda, including team building, travel, and project-related expenses; in some cases, funding may reach €1.2M. A defining feature of the program is that the host institution must provide a pathway to a permanent position before the end of the grant period.
We are especially interested in scholars whose work speaks to major conversations in strategic management, innovation, entrepreneurship, organization theory and adjacent strategy-related domains. Competitive candidates will typically have:
Indicative eligibility profile
- PhD awarded before January 1, 2018
- At least 5 years of professional affiliation with research institutions outside Spain
- Not holding a permanent position in the Spanish public research system at the time of application
ESADE will actively support selected candidates throughout the process, including proposal development, institutional coordination, and final submission. Given the selectivity of the program and the preparation involved, we encourage early expressions of interest.
