    CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Strategic Management Division (STR) Managing Your Dissertation Workshop 2025

    Pre-registration Deadline: June 30, 2025.

The STR Managing Your Dissertation Workshop will be offered at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management on the morning of Saturday, July 26 (please note that the timing is subject to AOM's scheduling approval and will be confirmed in Spring 2025). The workshop is open to all doctoral students, including those who participate in the STR Doctoral Consortium or the STR Dissertation Consortium. The workshop offers practical advice to advanced doctoral students on completing their dissertations and transitioning to their first academic positions. Pre-registration from students is required.

The workshop will be conducted in an informal setting where students will be able to interact with faculty and other students in small groups. The finalists for last year's STR Outstanding Dissertation Award share the coordination of the workshop. These finalists are: Sukhun Kang (UC Santa Barbara), Amisha Miller (NYU), Michael Park (INSEAD) Shirley Tang (Bocconi), Dan Wilde, (Indiana University).

The format of the PDW will mix plenary presentations by senior faculty followed by Q&A's, and breakout discussion groups led by last year's finalists for the STR Outstanding Dissertation Award.  The following is a list of faculty members who have agreed to participate in the workshop: Gary Dushnitsky (London Business School), Olenka Kacperczyk (London Business School), Rahul Kapoor (University of Pennsylvania), Siobhan O'Mahony (Boston University), Lamar Pierce (Washington University in St. Louis), Aks Zaheer (University of Minnesota).

If you are a doctoral student in strategy, you are encouraged to attend. Small group discussions will allow for interaction of people at similar stages. Topics to be covered include: (a) managing a dissertation committee, (b) considerations on research design, (c) practical and technical issues associated with data collection, (d) seeking a job and preparing the job talk, (e) writing and defending the dissertation, and (f) carving up the dissertation into papers for publication.

Interested doctoral students should pre-register at https://forms.gle/gLeNBKW6fVQ5knKq8. The deadline to pre-register is June 30, 2025. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. If you have any questions, please contact Dan Wilde (wilded@iu.edu).
