This PDW aims to foster a scholarly conversation about the current state of research and future directions on External Corporate Venturing (ECV). In the first part, leading scholars will join as speakers and discuss important topics in ECV, such as corporate-startup interactions (e.g., Dizdarevic, van de Vrande, & Jansen, 2024), strategies for selecting and combining different ECV tools into an effective portfolio (e.g., Keil, Maula, Schildt, & Zahra, 2008; Van de Vrande, 2013), corporate venture capital – one of the most extensively studied ECV tools (e.g., Jeon & Maula, 2022), and the emerging ECV tool known as the venture clienting model (e.g., Gimmy, Kanbach, Stubner, Konig, & Enders, 2017). To enrich and complement the scholarly perspective with practitioner insight, we will also invite a speaker from the industry with extensive experience in making strategic decisions in ECV.
In the second part, roundtable discussions will be held on participants' work-in-progress research, to be discussed in small groups with a moderator and other roundtable members. We invite scholars working on ECV strategies – such as the acquisition of startups, corporate venture capitals, corporate incubators/accelerators, venture clienting, startup partnering initiatives, and corporate-startup collaborations. If you are interested in receiving feedback on your research project, please submit an extended abstract through the online form by May 14, 2025: https://forms.gle/z9smfMVxV3ZWqN7K7. The extended abstract should be no longer than 3 pages, including references, figures, and tables, if any. Attendance for the second part is limited to the selected presenters and moderators. We will confirm your roundtable acceptance by the end of May, 2025. The date/time and location of the PDW are expected to be announced in May when the conference program is available.
