Abstract
We analyse how incumbent firms from terrestrial industries tackle opportunities in the Space Economy. Grounded in extensive data obtained from case studies across different markets, we develop a novel framework named 'Resource-Knowledge Generalizability Model' which outlines three strategic approaches to entry in the emerging Space Economy, classified as discovery, reinvention, and repurposing. Specifically, discovery requires the development of new knowledge to pursue opportunities far beyond the firm's initial capabilities. Reinvention starts instead with existing capabilities but demands significant adaptation for the new market. Finally, repurposing leverages existing knowledge and capabilities with minimal changes. Our findings demonstrate that the suitability of each entry strategy depends on the interplay between a firm's resource availability and the generalisability of its knowledge base. Discovery is best suited for firms with substantial resources, enabling them to develop groundbreaking capabilities for opportunities outside their traditional domains. Reinvention is advantageous for firms with moderate resources, allowing them to adapt and extend their existing capabilities to new contexts. Finally, repurposing is most effective for resource-constrained firms with highly generalisable knowledge, facilitating efficient entry with minimal adjustments. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of strategic entry in high-tech, nascent markets, offering guidance for firms navigating the unique challenges and opportunities of dynamic and uncertain environments.

Abstract
This study explores how creative ecosystem actors collectively produce creative outputs that are both continuous and discontinuous with conventions of creative work in the ecosystem at hand. Output is considered creative when it is novel and unexpected. However, a degree of continuation of these same conventions is needed for legitimacy and even success. Our exploration of the techno-music ecosystem reveals that this is shaped through power struggles between actors in a multi-layered structure. Ecosystem actors are organised in upper-, middle-, and underground layers according to their distinct interests. In this structure, creative output specific to these layers is reinforced as continuous by power actions, causing discontinuity at ecosystem-level. This discontinuity triggers power actions reinforcing commonalities and continuity at ecosystem-level and causing discontinuity at layer-level, triggering power actions reinforcing division. This process reinforces discontinuous continuity of creative output constituted across multiple levels through the collective enactment of power by diverse actors.

Abstract
Returning scientists play a critical role in building up the academic workforce and science in their home country. Still, it is unclear whether return mobility limits scientists' international relevance and thus international knowledge diffusion. Here, we take scientists returning to China as a sample to investigate the effect of return mobility on international impact and explore the roles of the international collaboration and international knowledge base in this effect. We find that returnee scientists experience a decline in international impact compared to a control group of scientists who do not return, which can largely be attributed to a decrease in international collaboration. We further show that the importance of international collaboration increases post-return, moderating the effect of return mobility. Overall, these findings clarify the limitation of return mobility and provide some empirical evidence on the limits of global knowledge diffusion in science and talent attraction policies.

Abstract
The increasing policy emphasis on achieving a joint green and digital transformation – referred to as the 'twin transition' is driving techno-organisational change in new directions. This paper examines how firms' internal organisation of labour in the manufacturing sector influences their ability to innovate in the interconnected green and digital domains. Given the systemic nature of sustainability transitions, its 'twin' evolution introduces complexities that extend beyond the challenges posed by decarbonisation and circularity. Empirical results show that organisational changes and human resource practices, alongside technological advancements, play a pivotal role in facilitating this transition.

Abstract
Patent text documents are a valuable and increasingly important data source for researchers in the field of innovation. Recent advances in natural language processing-particularly those centred on Transformers-have opened radically new opportunities for extracting information from patent text. Transformers, large language models (LLMs) built on deep learning architectures, rely on key underlying components such as attention mechanisms and word embeddings that enable a semantic understanding that is unparalleled compared to traditional approaches to text analysis. As such, Transformers represent a fundamental leap in how innovation researchers can extract meaning from patent documents. In this paper, we bridge a technical and applied perspective by unpacking the core components of Transformers, drawing on essential concepts from machine learning and linguistic theory. We then illustrate how Transformers can be leveraged in patent research, highlighting several potential applications, with a focus on measuring technological novelty. To ground our discussion, we present some exploratory analyses to demonstrate how Transformers can be used in practice.

Awarded the Best Paper Prize at DRUID 2025, the study 'The Impact of Lay Summary Language Translation on Scientific Attention: Evidence from Cochrane's Multi-Language Programme' explores how even small translations of research summaries can reshape the global circulation of knowledge. Authored by Rossella Salandra, Paola Criscuolo, Ammon Salter, and Judith Deppe, the paper shows that translating lay summaries into local languages significantly increases the scientific attention research receives in those contexts. As a partner of DRUID, Industry and Innovation presents this interview with the authors to trace the journey behind the project. The authors reflect on how the idea emerged, how collaboration developed, and what their findings mean for the democratisation of science. Beyond the numbers, the conversation provides a vivid account of the challenges and opportunities in making research more inclusive and more global.
