    Research Overview

    The Post-Doc will have the opportunity to work in an international research team in collaboration with senior academics, Prof. Alberto Nucciarelli (University of Trento); Prof. Juliane Reinecke (Saïd Business School, University of Oxford); Prof. Paolo Aversa (King's Business School, Kings College London).

    Climate change challenges local economies and societies, and it calls for action to protect and valorize their natural and human capital. The project "Hot Snow" will investigate the impact of climate change on tourism and (winter) sport industry and capture the interplay between the variety of market and non-market stakeholders involved in its ecosystem. The aim is to develop and combine theoretical understanding with key managerial implications to respond to such changes. The project will focus on the alpine area of Trentino Region (Italy), while also exploring the challenges and opportunities of the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.

    The post-doc will last 18 months and the candidate who will successfully contribute to a submission for a major research grant will be considered as primary candidate for additional funding to extend their research contract.

    Post-Doc responsibilities:

    ·       Independently conduct qualitative data collection with market and non-market stakeholders and archival data collection (media, libraries); the process will be including sampling, interviews, transcriptions and data analysis.

    ·       Produce a managerial report for the Fondazione CARITRO to stimulate discussion and inform market and non-market stakeholders.

    ·       Develop dissemination activities such as workshops, blogposts or other modes of dissemination to a wider audience of practitioners.

    ·       Collaborate with the senior scientists on a draft for a scientific paper submittable to an international peer-reviewed journal;

    ·       Collaborate to a draft of a submittable project application for an EU Horizon 2024 grant, or equivalent.

    Awarding institution: University of Trento, Italy.

    Recommended location of the activities: while the call does not require a specific location in the Trentino region, the Post-Doc is expected to conduct in-person interviews, and most of the activities will indeed be taking places in the Trentino region.

    Initial project duration: 18 months – from June 1st, 2023, to December 31st, 2024.

    Starting date:  Ideally, June 1st; slightly earlier or later start can be considered on case-by-case basis.

    Non-negotiable eligibility requirements:

    ·      Excellent knowledge of English and Italian (written and spoken).

    ·      A Ph.D. in Management or Social Sciences must be obtained before the start of the contract.

    ·      Not having reached the age of 35 on the application submission date.

    ·      Ability to travel independently to conduct interviews in the Trentino alpine region.

    Preferential requirements:

    ·      Demonstrated familiarity with qualitative research methods, existing literature, and research in management, strategy and/or entrepreneurship.

    ·      Experience in national and international research projects (report writing, grant application; project management).

    ·      Knowledge, experience, or engagement in one or more of the following domains: climate change; winter sports and alpine tourism, environmental movements.

    ·      A demonstrated ability to publish in top management (or social sciences) journals or producing potentially submittable working papers.

    Total fellowship gross amount: Euro 36,750 (circa Euro 1,800 net per month). Data collection and travel expenses will be covered separately.
