Data, Experiments, and the Future of Organizational Research in Africa
Monday, August 3 | 8:00–9:30 a.m. EDT
Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 116
Africa is one of the most exciting places to study organizations today. Fast-growing markets, rapid digital adoption, and highly entrepreneurial firms create valuable opportunities to understand how organizations innovate, adapt, and grow.
Have you been conducting research in Africa, or are you interested in starting? Join us for a panel with scholars who have built organizational datasets and run field studies across the continent, working with entrepreneurs, transport companies, and large financial institutions.
We will discuss both the opportunities and the practical challenges of doing rigorous research with African organizations. Topics will include building research partnerships, gaining access to data, running field experiments, and studying themes such as digitalization, AI, productivity, management practices, and inclusive business models.
Panelists
- Brian Silverman, University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management
- Rem Koning, Harvard Business School
- Chris Eaglin, Duke University, Fuqua School of Business
Organizers
- Silvia Castro, INSEAD and LMU Munich
- Maren Mickeler, ESSEC Business School
