Copenhagen Business School has opened a call for a fully funded PhD position in the area of causal data science and strategic management. The position is part of my Sapere Aude Research Leader Grant funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project is titled:

"Optimizing Human–AI Interaction: Integrating Domain Knowledge into Causal AI Systems."

The project sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and strategic management and investigates how causal reasoning in AI systems can improve managerial decision-making. We use a mixed-methods approach, combining lab experiments with field studies in collaboration with an industry partner.

The PhD position is hosted by the Department of Strategy and Innovation at CBS, a world-class research environment spanning strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business. The department embraces methodological pluralism, including experiments, econometrics, qualitative research, and formal theory.

The PhD project can be shaped broadly and may explore both the model-building side of causal systems (e.g., causal discovery, causal representation learning, etc.) as well as the broader managerial and societal implications of causal AI (e.g., in organizations, markets, and policy). Applicants with exposure to causal inference methodologies (e.g., econometrics, information systems, or computer science) and an interest in empirical or experimental research will be well suited. Prior experience with experimental methods or data analysis is a plus.

    Further information:

    Application deadline: February 20, 2026

Please feel free to reach out if you have questions or would like to discuss the position informally.
