Post doc opportunity - University of Bologna - DEADLINE November 6, 2023

  • 1.  Post doc opportunity - University of Bologna - DEADLINE November 6, 2023

    Posted 10-24-2023 20:02

We are accepting applications for a full-time post-doctoral fellow at the Management Department of the University of Bologna (Italy). We are open to scholars in the fields of strategy, innovation, organization theory and/or entrepreneurship. Knowledge of Italian is not required and the working language will be English. The position is initially intended for 18 months but can be extended up to 24 months. The tentative start date is January 2023.

The position offers ample opportunities to travel across partner institutions, including Bayes Business School (London), LUISS Business School (Rome), and the Catolica Porto Business School (Porto). The salary is 50,000 EUR gross. Additional funding for travel, visiting periods, and conferences is available.

A Ph.D. degree is not necessary at the time of application, but it should be obtained in the coming months. Familiarity with qualitative methodologies including software such as NVivo and being comfortable with text mining and topic modelling techniques are considered a major plus.

The post-doctoral fellow will exclusively focus on research although minor teaching assistantship opportunities are available.

Professor Leonardo Corbo will be directly supervising the post-doc position but there will be plenty of opportunities to work with other faculty members involved in the project including Professor Simone Ferriani of the Management Department in Bologna as well as colleagues from partner institutions in Rome (LUISS) and Porto (Catolica Porto Business School).

The selected candidate will work on the legitimation journeys of outsider innovators. This is an exciting opportunity to investigate the processes and mechanisms through which outsider innovators and entrepreneurs have found their way to prominence in various fields ranging from platform-based solutions to creative industries. At the same time, while these outsiders have often been celebrated for the novelty they produce, examples of outsiders implicated in morally questionable actions abound. Therefore, the research project will explore both the bright and the dark sides of outsider innovators.

    Expectations, summing up:

    ·       A Ph.D. completed or near completion in strategy, innovation, organization theory and/or entrepreneurship

    ·       Expertise in text analysis through computer software (e.g. NVivo) and qualitative methods

    ·       Solid research potential and ambition to publish in top-tier journals

    ·       Ability to work independently while participating collaboratively in multidisciplinary research team.

    Salary

50,000 EUR gross per 18 months plus generous research endowment for travel.
