IG&C Panel Session (2167) - Innovations, Best Practices, and Trends in Online and Hybrid International Management Education (Joint Session with Global Strategy IG)
Due to the disruption of COVID-19, the demand for Online and Hybrid courses at the university level has grown exponentially and this trend is expected to continue in the future. These changes and disruptions, however, have made impactful teaching more difficult. With that in mind, we propose an online / hybrid teaching perspectives panel that discusses the teaching hardships of the last couple years and the current disruptions in the global business environment. We plan to discuss recent technological trends in online international management education, instructor strategies for making online courses richer and more engaging for students, engaging students with cases in online and hybrid formats, and when to use synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid instruction formats.

IG&C Panel Session 2195 - Strategically Teaching Strategy: Designing Courses and Building a Successful Teaching Portfolio
Designing new courses can be daunting, as there are so many aspects to consider: course content and structure, teaching methods, study materials, student feedback, assessment. What are the necessary skills student need to acquire? How can you create an engaging learning experience? Which situational aspects need to be considered? How can a course be redesigned? How can course content be related with current research? Each new course design adds to the teaching portfolio, ideally playing to one's strengths and showcasing excellent pedagogical skills. How can course design strategies help build an outstanding and sustainable teaching portfolio? This session brings together experienced educators and program leaders who shed light on how to strategically approach and answer these and other questions around course design and teaching portfolios.

IG&C Panel Session 2194 - Strategy Practice and Teaching Strategy for an Open World
In line with this year's conference theme, the panelists will discuss the requirements of an increasingly open world for practice and teaching. What methods and practices characterize strategy-making today and in the years to come? What competencies and skills do strategists need and how can students acquire them? In this panel, we will discuss the changing requirements for strategists and especially the accompanying consequences for the education of future strategists with a view to open strategy. Strategy practice has become more transparent and inclusive, requiring new forms of interaction and communication, innovative methods, and growing use of digital tools. In this panel, experienced scholars will share their insights and discuss how we can adjust strategy curricula and teaching methods in order to prepare students to become effective strategists in an open world.

Session 2271 - Experiential Learning, Exercises and Simulations in Teaching Strategic Management
This session starts with a paper presentation on "Sequential Experiential Learning: Preparing International Business Students for an Open World" followed by an exercise and a simulation on Porter's Value Chain. Although the value chain is a widely recognized and well-taught tool, students often struggle with its application. Two pedagogical methods, a hands-on exercise and a Harvard value chain simulation will be introduced, the pros and cons of both methods reviewed, and if time allows, participants can play both.
