We welcome you to attend the "Facts, Papers, and the Future of Strategy Research" workshop at SMS-Toronto on Saturday, September 30, from 9 a.m. to noon in Chestnut East.
The first 2 hours of this workshop will be a panel session, and a feedback session will follow in the final hour. Kindly note that pre-registration is NOT required to attend the panel session.

Abstract: It is common for researchers in strategy to iterate between theory and data to arrive at hypotheses as researchers refine ideas, understanding of samples, and measurement. However, these results are often presented as tests of theories even though the iterative research distorts p-values and standard errors. This workshop explores why this is a problem and then explores solutions. We then consider how to restructure and publish papers in a way that more accurately maps to implemented research processes and removes the pressure to make hypotheses "work."
Thank you for considering this workshop. We hope to see you there.
