    Dear Friends of Strategy Science,

I am pleased to share with you the September 2023 issue of Strategy Science, which features four great papers:
    • This research questions the belief that markets consistently provide unbiased value estimates. Instead, it suggests that markets can foster price bubbles through social conformity and cognitive biases.
    • The authors explore how alliances impact the reputations of partnering firms, revealing that reputation changes depend on their competence levels and alliance formation decisions.
    • This study challenges the assumption that venture capital firms always choose successful startups and suggests that specialist VC firms can help less attractive startups become successful through their expertise and resources.
    • Backward compatibility is a strategy for platform owners to encourage updates and boost network effects. It can increase sales of old-gen software but may not benefit new hardware sales, posing trade-offs. Careful consideration is needed.
Please enjoy these papers and share them with your colleagues.  Also, please connect with us on LinkedIn or follow us on Twitter.

    Sincerely,

    Todd Zenger
