UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Coverage in the AOM: A Report

Many AOM members and leaders are interested in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Agenda 2030. We were among such people and decided to create a session at the AOM 2025 Annual Meeting on how to move this forward within the AOM. To provide a quantitative basis for this session, we researched coverage of SDG topics at the 2025 AOM Meeting and AMJ's SDG topic coverage in 2024. <u1:p></u1:p>

The 2024 issues of AMJ had no explicit SDG references, even in work that intended to address "grand challenges." For the 2025 Annual Meeting, there were 4356 mentions across the 17 SDGs, with 3 SDGs covering two-thirds of all mentions (SDG8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, 1318 mentions; SDG 4 – Quality Education, 1226 mentions; SDG3 – Good Health and Well-Being, 493 mentions). Conversely, one-third of the SDGs had only from 10 to 37 mentions. We shared the analysis with the Board of Governors.

We also drafted a report for the ODC division based on our study's findings and shared it with the ODC Board. We are offering to the AOM a report containing the statistics and other findings shared with the BOG, as well as the report we prepared for the ODC division.<u1:p></u1:p>

We hope these will help further the AOM's, its Divisions', and Interest Groups' efforts to understand, program, and promote the Agenda 2030 SDG goals in scholarship, research, and teaching. In a world facing physical and environmental crises, we want to contribute and see the AOM contribute to the process of researching and teaching solutions to the challenges facing international development and peace. We stand ready to help support and answer questions of those of you who make use of the report.
