    Who:   Assistant Professors

What:  A thirty minute conversation with a senior scholar of your choosing!

    When: Weeks of May 11, 18, and 25 (2020)

    Where: Online

STRonger Together Coffee Wish Conversations offer the opportunity for junior faculty to have a one-on-one conversation with a senior scholar. With most conferences and external speaker visits being cancelled, junior faculty no longer have the opportunity to interact with senior scholars to share their research projects and ideas and get early feedback on their emerging research agendas and identities. Our goal is to provide "coffee wishes" for junior faculty! Have you always wanted to talk with a scholar whose work you have read and build upon?  Well – here's an opportunity for a candid conversation! You may wish to speak about research, ask for general advice about journals/publication or building a research identity, or something else entirely; we just want to provide you the opportunity to get to know one another.

How it will work:  We have a list of senior faculty who have generously committed thirty minutes in each of the last three weeks of May for Coffee Wish Conversations. Faculty include:

    • Juan Alcacer (Harvard U)
    • Nick Argyres (Washington U)
    • Christine Beckman (U of Southern California)
    • Phil Bromiley (U of California – Irvine)
    • Gary Dushnitsky (LBS)
    • Caroline Flammer (Boston U)
    • Giovanni Gavetti (Dartmouth College)
    • Sarah Kaplan (U of Toronto)
    • Samina Karim (Northeastern U)
    • Aseem Kaul (U of Minnesota)
    • Dan Levinthal (U of Pennsylvania)
    • Louise Mors (Copenhagen Business School)
    • Tammy Madsen (Santa Clara U)
    • Joanne Oxley (U of Toronto)
    • Francisco Polidoro (U of Texas – Austin)
    • Myles Shaver (U of Minnesota)
    • David Sirmon (U of Washington)
    • Deepak Somaya (U of Illinois – Urbana-Cham.)
    • Gabriel Szulanski (INSEAD)
    • Jim Westphal (U of Michigan)
    • Margarethe Wiersema (U of California – Irvine)

Interested Assistant Professors may sign up for a time slot in the month of May at: https://tinyurl.com/STRCoffeeWish. Note that there will be three rounds of sign-ups; you should sign up by 5 pm EDT on the Friday of the prior week (so deadlines are May 8, 15, and 22 respectively) to the week of your chosen time slots. There may be multiple people interested in a time slot in which case we will give priority to folks who have not yet met with a senior faculty or default to random draw. Over the weekend we will let you know if you were assigned the time slot that you requested. If matched, it is the junior faculty member's responsibility to coordinate with the senior scholar with regards to video conferencing preferences (e.g., Skype, Zoom). If you have any questions please email akaul@umn.edu.
