    Cultural Entrepreneurship Paper Development Workshop

2023 Academy of Management Annual Meeting

CALL FOR EXTENDED ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS – DEADLINE: JUNE 16, 2023

Cultural entrepreneurship research, i.e., work on the cultural and institutional dynamics of entrepreneurship, innovation, and change, has grown in recent years. This growth has been generative, inviting and benefiting from the contributions of scholars from diverse backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives. Building on this momentum, this PDW seeks to encourage the many early-career scholars and other researchers new to the cultural entrepreneurship community, and help them develop and ultimately publish their work.

Part I: Panel Presentations (open to all attendees)

This portion of the workshop, open to all AOM conference participants, will feature presentations by Professors Greg Fisher (Indiana University), Davide Ravasi (University College London), and Eric Zhao (Indiana University), whose work has been influential in cultural entrepreneurship research. These distinguished speakers collectively possess an outstanding publication track-record and substantial editorial experience, and each will focus on conceptual, qualitative, or quantitative research to provide attendees with a well-rounded series of presentations that will frame subsequent discussions.

Part II: Roundtable Discussions (by invitation, short paper submission required)

The second portion of the workshop will provide an opportunity for selected participants to interact with experienced cultural entrepreneurship researchers and obtain tailored feedback on their work in progress. These experts boast a range of conceptual and empirical expertise that will benefit a diverse variety of participants. Experts and panelists will interact in small-group roundtables to discuss the specific conceptual or methodological challenges scholars are having.

To ensure that these discussions are fruitful, we will endeavor to align experts and authors based on specific interests and expertise. Therefore, this part of the workshop requires submission of an extended abstract of up to 5 pages. Submissions will be reviewed by the organizers for their fit with the PDW's focus and objectives, and invitations will be extended to selected participants by mid-June. Selected abstracts will also be shared with expert mentors and fellow roundtable participants.

Faculty mentors: Jean Clarke, Emily C. Pahnke, Greg Fisher, Joel Gehman, Nina Granqvist, Richard Haans, Christi Lockwood, Elizabeth Pontikes, Davide Ravasi, Jean-François Soublière, Henri Schildt, Klaus Weber, Charlene Zietsma, and Eric Zhao.
